Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) approached Seed to help them redesign their enterprise intranet (Connect 2). ARCBS employ more than 3000 employees working in scientific, medical and support services. The primary source of work related information for ARCBS employees is Connect 2. Seed were asked to redesign Connect 2 with the primary concern for ARCBS being the ability for users to quickly find the information that was relevant to them. Seed undertook usability testing of a sample group and based on the reports generated created new design concepts for Connect 2. Further usability testing was then carried out on the improved design to refine it further. Supporting the new design was an improved Information Architecture, new collaboration tools and hot spots for news flashes and interesting FAQs. Discoverability was improved on the site in two ways: an advanced search was proposed that allowed users to find information using metadata and tags; improved user management gave users the ability to update their own profile. This set the foundation for information to be sourced through the community that had expertise in the information domain being investigated.
